I agree with Barb. To my understanding Medicaid does not provide dental coverage.
All I know is that when you go to a dentist’s office be prepared to pay out of pocket if need be. Often the dentist won’t proceed unless they know one way or another that they will get paid.
Is there a university with a dental program near you? Sometimes the dental students run a program that provides care for reduced rate or free. They do basic dentistry ie extractions, teeth cleaning. That may be an option.

My husband's dental work was covered completely by Medicaid. So were his hearing aids. Not every dentist office accepts Medicaid in payment. We found a very nice practice that did.

We too got into a spot where Medicaid lapsed. I think I had not gotten the renewal app in on time. I think I had to reapply. The renewals are really easy (unlike the original application).

Discuss with the AL business office how renewals will be handled going forward, and also how the current lapse is being handled.

I'm not sure what you mean "sealing with the medical part of Medicaid"?

Can you elaborate on your question?  Do you mean "dealing" with the medical part of Medicaid?

With ALs in my area, you have to pay private for 2 years, and if they have a room available, will take Medicaid. I would think a financial staff member can help you file but a lot of information is needed that will be your responsibility to provide. Once on Medicaid for AL care, the Medical is automatic. Medicaid provides the supplimental and prescription plans. Assuming the person is on Medicare. Mom was in a NH on Medicaid and I did not once see a bill for the doctors who saw her.

Ah! The dentist's office says that mom doesn't have Medicaid coverage for dental care?

Does Medicaid ever cover dental care on your state? I don't think they do in mine.

Did you talk to the business office at the AL?

"Dental health is an important part of people's overall health. States are required to provide dental benefits to children covered by Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), but states choose whether to provide dental benefits for adults."

Well, it does sound like the ball was dropped. Are you Mom's DPOA? Since dealing with the AL financial office isn't getting results, I'd contact Mom's Medicaid financial case worker directly. Ask about the status of her coverage, and if it has lapsed, why? How can it be remedied? Then you'll need to work out with AL who does what to get it reinstated. (If you have met the Medicaid social work case manager, you could call them, and they could investigate the financial side.)

There is an appeal process.

I'm sorry you are dealing with this kind of administrative snafu. You thought with Mom in an AL things would get easier. Let's hope that starts to happen soon!

Thank you all for replying. In IL they do offer dental. That's the thing. Poor mom was 100 percent approved for her procedures 2 weeks ago. We get there and this happened. She was so disappointed.
The person who handles this where mom lives is not the friendliest person to talk with. Never any solid answers. Always I'll look into it..Dont worry. How can elderly people not worry. Do you think it sounds like she dropped the ball?

BTW, the private-pay for a certain number of months or years for AL coverage is a policy of the facility, not of Medicaid. They can say "Yes, we will accept Medicaid payments, but only for our own residents who have been with us at least X years." Or they can say, "No, we do not accept Medicaid payments at all." Or, "Yes, we'll accept Medicaid payments from day one." Totally up to the facility, so it pays to ask that when searching for an ALF. Just because one says no doesn't mean there aren't any in the area that will say Yes.

In New Jersey dental is covered. Mom should have a card proving it. Ask the admitting office if they have the card on file. If so, ask to have it since Mom uses her own doctors. I Didn't need Moms because the dentist came to the facility. Be aware, not all doctors except Medicaid.
